Abstract

An experimental study of ¢¥deep hypothermia for open-heart surgery was reviewed. in 10 dogs under normothermia(during 30 min. at 35¡ÆC) and in 10 dogs under profound hypothermia with limited cardiopulmDnary bypass. (cardiac arrest during 30 min. at 20¡ÆC). In the control group(normothermia),only 30me of the7.5% NaHCO3 was added to the priming solution before bypass, and in the deep hypothermia group with limited bypass each 30me of 7.5 % NaHC03 was added to the priming solution before bypass, at 30¡ÆC, 25¡ÆC and 20¡ÆC (4 times). 1
In the deep hypothermia group there was more severe, respiratory alkalosis than in the control group from cooling to cardiac arrest, but it was neatly recovered to normal level at the end of rewarming. I think that CO2 gas(2.5-5%) must be added to oxygenator for controlling. of the respiratory alkalosis.
